Yes, /tmp is drwxrwxrwt owned by root which is normal for linux so far as I know.

Not sure if I mentioned it but Video/Start/Stop screenshots works fine, though almost certainly unrelated to the thumbnailer failure.

Do you still have the problem if you change the option "extract frames" from jpg to png (or vice versa)?

Yes, same failure behavior whether .jpg or .png is selected for extracted frames.

Unfortunately, no 00000001.png is created. Instead, the command returns 'Aborted (core dumped)' as you can see below, and mpv crashes with ABRT reporting 'mpv quit unexpectedly'. I tried it with a .mp4 file and it failed the same way.

I tried this command several times while watching a filesystem display of /tmp in krusader root, and although a directory beginning 'systemd-private-<long hash>-upower.service-' appears briefly and disappears, no .png appears. I did a 'touch /tmp/00000001.png' from the same directory to make sure that worked, and it did.

I have a feeling this problem has very nearly nothing to do with SMPlayer itself.

Yes, that definitely looks like a problem in mpv. However in my computer mpv 0.33 works fine with a similar video (same code, same resolution). So maybe it's not a bug in mpv itself but it may be a problem with one of the libraries it uses or the way it was compiled.

It's fixed!

SMPlayer Version: 21.1.0 (revision 9475)
Using Qt 5.15.2 (compiled with Qt 5.15.2)
Using MPV 0.33.0

Fedora 33 update today gives me a new version of SMPlayer and now the Thumbnail Generator works flawlessly once again. I am most pleased.

Did you fix it, or was it Leigh with mpv or something else? Can you explain to a non-coding moron what changed to reenable the generator?

I did nothing.
Maybe did they update mpv as well?
