SMPlayer does not save settings. After changing General/Multimedia engine I choose "mpv" and give save. After switching off SMPlayer and restarting it, the change of settings is not saved and "Other..." is set.
The platform is Linux Ubuntu. On windows I don't have such problems.

If "Other" is selected but the binary is /usr/bin/mpv (or similar) then it's normal.
