Unable to accelerate video via Direct3D after driver update

After a ATI driver update to version Catalyst 10.2 (Radeon 4850 / previously 9.12), the only working output driver is DirectX. This, however, disables Aero, so I would like to use Direct3D or gl instead. If I try to play a video with Direct3D (or anything except DirectX), I get this error code (log is empty):

Got the same Problem (with SMPl 6.8 and 6.9; Same GPU, CC Version and MPlayer Exit Code as ATIuser; Windows 7 64bit).

I had the same problem with the new ATI Driver, but only with SMP 0.6.8. After an update to 0.6.9 (SVN r3447) the problem disappeard.
Perhaps a re-install helps?
