new channels.conf but TV channels don't update

I've updated my channels.conf a few times recently but smplayer still displays a mixture of channels from previous channels.conf. I've got the "check for new channels on startup" option ticked but it doesn't seem to do anything. Anyone know how I can change the list of channels displayed in smplayer?
