Any performance change of x86 vs x86_64 on Vista x64

Postby brittney24 » Fri Sep 21, 2012 3:19 pm

Searched the archives, but found nothing on what the performance difference is, if any, of using the 64 bit vs 32 bit SMPlayer (now 0.8.1) on Windows 64 bit OS w/ a fast quad CPU?

Does the 64 vs 32 bit version actually perform better on Windows 64 bit OS? In what way?
Are there different UI preference options between the versions?

Other issue: I notice "hesitation" in fairly large # of higher res vids. Sometimes picture freezes fraction of a sec.; sometimes couple of sec.
Could be lost frames in vids, but wonder about that in so many files. Don't know if this is common problem for downloaded files.

Could be bug / issue in mplayer2 (or mplayer) for WINDOWS - lachsOr's. Have tried mplayer (not 2) - same issue.

Thanks.
Can't we all just get along? If a computer crashes when no one's around, does it make a sound?

It surprises me that no one seems to have an opinion on this. I also posted question on MPlayer2 mailing list. No replies there, either - yet.

I guess the person(s) that coded the 64 bit versions hasn't read my post yet. If the 64 bit version isn't making use of extra resources, not sure I see the point. Not sure.

SMPlayer is just a GUI so not really much gained other than to make it a native 64-bit app.

If not already done so set a cache for local files in the Performance options and/or 'Threads for decoding' to 4.
