Hello,

Recently I'm experiencing problems with the playback of some H.264 videos in SMPlayer when adding black borders in fullscreen mode.

After updating from SMPlayer 0.8.0 with MPlayer r34992 to SMPlayer 0.8.1 with MPlayer r35203 (also tried MPlayer r35226) there is always flickering where the actual video and the lower added black border meet. Only a few lines at the bottom of the video are affected and it looks like the pixels of the video are alternating with black pixels.

I was able to reproduce this problem on four different computers with both nVidia and AMD/ATI GPUs, and I tried both old and latest drivers. In SMPlayer I made sure that the direct rendering option is disabled and I also tried to switch to OpenGL with no success. Also, it does not happen with all H.264 videos, just with some of them.

When I downgrade MPlayer to r34835 (r34992 wasn't available anymore) or r35034 from the problem disappears. Is this a bug in newer releases of MPlayer, or did something change and the problem can be fixed by turning on/off certain options in SMPlayer (without disabling the black borders)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try the latest build to see if it still crashes, but I can't reproduce the black border problem, all I have are widescreen H264 videos that might have something to do with it.

Tried it with the same result. The problem with the black borders was caused only by some H264 videos, so it would be reasonable to assume it had something to do with those files (they play fine in MPC-HC though). However, with the lastest builds MPlayer crashes for all H264 videos.

I disabled everything under Preferences -> General -> Audio and made sure no aditional audio filters were listed under Advanced Mplayer Options. Still no success. I guess for now I stick with MPlayer build r35034. Maybe a future build will fix this problem.

It hasn't crashed for me at all, so I don't know about why it's doing that.. try verbose logging.

The crash also happens with the MPlayer builds from . I was ready to blame my hardware/software configuration, but then again next to the black border problem I am able to reproduce even the MPlayer crash on four different machines running Windows XP or 7.

Do all the videos have "INFO: libavcodec "dca" init OK!"

I don't have any MKVs that use "dca". I might need a sample if that is so..
