Automatic Fast Forwarding in Windows XP

Postby vidohol » Thu Sep 08, 2016 2:57 am

I am one of those dinosaurs who is still running a Windows XP machine with no prospects of upgrading in foreseeable future.
I recently downloaded 16.8.0 version and, honestly, I am disliking it a lot.

Any time I start a new video, return to playing from pause and sometimes even when changing the level of volume from the player, the video starts fast forwarding and keeps going on anywhere from 5 seconds to 65 seconds of the footage.

Is it a bug or a compatibility issue?

I just uninstalled 16.8.0 and installed 16.7.0 and found the same problem, especially when starting the video. When I jump to different points in the videos, the same problem occurs about 20 to 50 % of the time.

What "multimedia engine" are you using? (Preferences -> General)

If you select the other one, does it make any difference?

There is only one engine visible, which is mpv.

During the installation you can select the engines (mpv and mplayer) to install. Be sure mplayer is installed and then select mplayer in the preferences and see if it works better.

If that doesn't fix it, then I'll need a sample video where this problem happens, because I think I never experienced this problem with any of my videos.

I am happy to report that after following your instructions, the problem seems to have been solved.

I removed 16.7 and installed 16.9. The installer reported that it was unable to extract mpv.exe and to find youtube--dll. I had same two problems with 16.7 and 16.8. However, in all three cases, the installation completed. After installing 16.9, I made sure that smplayer engine was selected.

Now I am not experiencing any problems that I reported before.
