SMPlayer 16.11 won't put subtitles in black border

I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 64bit, with SMPlayer from PPA. With older version of SMPlayer (16.1 and earlier), I have watched videos with subtitles in black bars below the video. For some reason, this doesn't work with 16.11. I have tried numerous output drivers, mpv and mplayer backends, without success. Also, I cannot place OSD bar in black border atop of video. If I downgrade SMPlayer to 16.1, everything regarding subtitles/osd works as expected (but then 6.1 audio doesn't play anymore through pulse, and with alsa channel mappings are wrong).

Did anyone had problem like this?

In version 16.11 the option to add black borders in fullscreen in preferences -> general -> video was removed (maybe you were using this option?). The option is back in the development version, so it will available in the next version.

You can use the option video -> filters -> add black borders.
