Adjust screen size when lower navigation bar appears

Postby HeavyMetal » Sat Feb 11, 2017 7:25 pm

Hello,
Using SMPlayer for long time, from version 0.6.9, which didn't have the issue that newer version do.
In 0.6.9, in full screen mode, when mouse was moved down to show navigation panel, when the panel appeared, the picture sze became a bit smaller, so that navigation panel do not appear OVER the picture.
Now this is gone, and navigation panel appears over the picture and thus hide it's lower part.
Is there any way to make it work as it was? Having lower part cut every time is not fun at all.
I talk about all versions within last couple years.
Also, in newest version that navigation bar appears EVERY TIME the mouse is moved. Not only when mouse is moved to bottom, like it was before, but on EVERY mouse move.
Very annoying.
Can something be done? Really hope so. Old version seem to be much better in terms of interface and usability.

Many people didn't like that the image become smaller and asked for the controls to be displayed over the video. This is also how most video players do it.
I think there's no easy way to bring the old method back, it would be necessary to modify the sources.

This can be changed: turn on the option "show only when moving the mouse to the bottom of the screen" in preferences -> interface -> floating control.

Thanks for reply! Really appreciate.
Allow me to confirm few things regarding navigation panel
1.
"there's no easy way to bring the old method back"

Is anyone else asking for that? I mean - are you planning to try, or not at all? Can it be added as an option, to the player?
If not, then
2. What would be the latest player version with navigation panel that does not cover the image?
3. If I keep old SMPlayer (to keep that "old-style GUI), and update MPlayer only - will that improve the playback in any way (smoother, faster, better video quality etc.)? Or, it rather depends on SMPlayer settings so it needs to be updated to have better playback?
Thanks

On the contrary, when the panel reduced the video area there were many complaints about it. I think no one (but you) requested to return to the old behaviour.

For me as developer, it was much easier to implement the previous behavior but people didn't like, so I had to complicate much more the code to implement the new behavior.

I don't remember, it was a long time ago. If you use Windows you can find older versions here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/smplay ... /SMPlayer/

Probably older versions of smplayer may still work with newer versions of mplayer. However it's unlikely that it works with recent versions of mpv.

Thanks again for reply,
Since you say
For me as developer, it was much easier to implement the previous behavior

Would it be possible to add this "old behavior" as an option, to switch to?
In my case, I need to keep the time bar (or just playing/total time) on the screen, all the time during playback. But now, the controls panel that shows it, cuts the video. The only option left is to keep player in non-fullscreen mode - but then I get picture much smaller, with SMP menu above, and Windows task panel below.
So basically I try to find a way to keep a picture as big as possible, uncut, with having playback time on screen all the time.
If you have any idea how it'd be possible would be great. Or, the option for the old behavior...
Thanks!

The problem is that I completely removed the old code so I'd have to search for it and see if I can put it back.
