My locale is es_ES.UTF-8 and it works fine. If the problem happened after a system upgrade, I guess the problem might be caused by any of the libraries that have been updated or a change in the configuration.

I noticed the same dialog box error today with qBittorrent. The problem is likely Qt-related.
Thank you for all the hard work you have put into SMPlayer. Almost every video file that has reached my retinae for more than a decade has been pushed through its code, spanning many computers and operating systems. It is a good, reliable piece of software. In the process of trying to work around this issue, however, I have discovered that running mpv from the command line provides even more functionality and convenience.
I won't be back, but man was I here.
Take care!
