When starting a video (drag+drop a folder with VIDEO_TS subfolder) I got this error:

Does it work if you select mplayer as multimedia engine in preferences -> general?

Regret, that doesn't make any difference.

However, in both cases (MPlayer and mpv) the video will play when selecting the subfolder, i.e. when selecting VIDEO_TS-folder.
When selecting the name of the move (i.e. parent folder), in both cases the video will not play.

It strikes me there is a bit of a difference in used font:

I tried this a few times - with changing back to mpv and again back to MPlayer.
It is the same all the time.



Oh, just a wild guess.. Maybe that is the cause...

The name of the movie counted 60 characters.
1 containing: ö
and one word containing : ä

I copied the DVD.
Removed the word containing the ä
drag-drop: error (something went wrong)

Then I removed the word containing the ö
drag-drop play, no problem.

tried it again, same case.

So probably SMPlayer stumbles over foreign characters?

Is that a matter of 'settings' ?
Or is that by design?

You can try the option "pass short filenames to mplayer/mpv" in preferences -> advanced -> mplayer/mpv.

If you rename a random video.mkv (or whatever) to ö.mkv, does SMPlayer open it without problems? This could be related to

tried that, regret problem remains the same...
changed the foldername to just: ä
1 character only.
so:
\ä
\VIDEO-TS



however, i renamed a .mp4 file to ä.mp4
no .. issues there.

A newer version of MPlayer fixes this, at least for me, included in 17.7.0.8616: https://sourceforge.net/projects/smplay ... -unstable/

Since it is a problem with the DVD libraries, it is unlikely there will be a fix in mpv as they don't fix or work around other people's bugs. I submitted a bug that when using mpv by itself, dragging and dropping DVDs just exits and it was closed 'not our bug'.
