Postby rvm » Fri Nov 28, 2014 11:41 pm

As explained here now SMPlayer supports mpv, which is a fork of mplayer which provides new interesting possibilities.

Finally got to try this out (Gentoo's libav situation is totally FUBAR, so I had to switch to ffmpeg).

It works like a charm!

Thanks for your hard work :)

Send the mplayer log (options -> view logs) so we can know what is going on.

Do you mean the youtube browser? It's on a separate package now: http://smtube.sourceforge.net/

i got it working i NEVER set the NETWORK check box
as well as NEVER checked MPV during the install
so it kept buffering the cache

so i checked the NETWORK BOX
then reinstalled SMplayer and during setup i did this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4aWhJ9Bm8k and did instructions
Install --> PLAYBACK COMPONENTS --> MPV --> NEXT
its running now

my question is the browser is YOU TUBE ONLY
i cant use it to look for anime on crunchy roll for example
which means i to COPY PASTE URLS ALL TIME by opening fire fox copy url to SMplayer
too bad the smplayer browser cant be used to search for videos on other sites or can it

Hi!
I saw this thread and thought I could mention another new interesting mpv feature that smooths dynamic scenes in the movies.
It called: frame interpolation, enabling which results in double movie framerate with additional generated frames between every movie frame.
I personally enjoy it very much and use it all the time although this technique is somewhat controversial (some people like it, some hate it).

One can try it by changing 'General'->'Video'->'Output driver' to 'User defined...' and put there: 'opengl-hq:interpolation' or 'opengl:interpolation' which is somewhat faster on older video cards.
I'm not sure what mpv version has this feature but it's in the trunk.

That is not correct. This option will interpolate mismatches, not double the framerate. For example, this won't interpolate 30FPS video into 60FPS. It will leave it at 30FPS, since 30FPS on 60Hz has no mismatches (every frame is displayed exactly twice, no problem.)

What this does is display interpolated frames in case of mismatches. For example, 25FPS video on 60Hz. Some frames would be displayed twice. Only *those* frames will get interpolated.

So in other words, this fixes judder ("micro-stutter").

Hmm. Ok, thank you for correction and explanation! )
..I was not familiar with the implementation of this feature in mpv, instead I read some other sources about this technique in general and just assumed it works that way..
Good to know.
