DVD Skips/Jumps in version 3584

Postby ReiCow » Tue Sep 07, 2010 6:27 pm

Hello,

When I play certain DVDs (like Empire Strikes Back) in smplayer, within 25 seconds the movie will stutter, pause, and jump.. giving the following error below.
I have tried setting cache.. changing video & audio drivers... no change.
My machines are Win7_64, i7, 8GB RAM and Win7, CoreDuo2.7 GHz, 4GB, I highly doubt they are too slow.. something else is going on..
This was introduced with the newest mplayer build from Netfarm OSS (which I need for some other code I have written)..
The previous version of mplayer plays DVDs okay, but lacks more recent code that I need.

I'm wondering if the problem is from some setting in smplayer clashing with something in the new mplayer or something.. any ideas?

Try using a different Demuxer. I have the same problem with MOV files, with a slower computer than yours. Changing the demuxer to MOV (from Lavfpref) usually solves the problem. Also, using the MKV demuxer (instead of Lavfpref) often solves the problem for those containers. Let us know if it works for you.

I'm having no luck changing the demuxer or demuxer options.

I'm getting this when playing physical media (as are my friends on their machines.) Could someone please test this on theirs?

Thanks,

After further testing.. I believe the problem is the mplayer build. I've posted on OSS's tracker about it.

I uploaded smplayer-0.6.9.3585-win32.exe to Sourceforge containing r32198. It at least fixed a couple of problems I was having with r31878: subtitles not showing & any video I played it would initially skip and the log say my machine was too slow. I have a Pentium D 965EE and it ain't too slow to play a low bitrate 720p animated video.

Where can we find this updated version on sourceforge? I'm trying to find a build with a newer version of mplayer bundled...
Currently it appears that (for windows) the webdl installer downloads mplayer r30369, the static one is version is r28311...would it be at all possible to release a version with a newer mplayer build at all?

Thanks much for making this possible :)

I suppose in the meantime I could use the installer "without mplayer" then just use mplayer from say http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer-win32.php ...
Thanks!

Looks like you can find smplayer with an updated [bundled] mplayer in mulder's "mplayer for windows" downloads. Works for me. Dvdnav problem has been overcome.
