Debian testing smplayer open dialog

Postby GeneBenson » Tue Jun 14, 2016 7:25 am

Running Debian tracking testing with Mate/Xfce and smplayer_16.6.0-3.1_amd64. This version (and all qt5 versions so far) use a very basic "Open Dialog" window. On the left side it is only showing one bookmark: Computer, instead of using an existing bookmark file. It is possible to add bookmarks however. Also, the window does not remember it's size or position.
On Linux Mint 17.3 the "Open Dialog" window is what I expect.

No big deal. Just thought I'd mention it.

I just installed smplayer_16.6.0.7989-1~trusty1_amd64.deb from the new Qt4 PPA and all is well. The expected "Open Dialog" window is back again.
Thank you very much for this new PPA.

Finally found the answer. To get the GTK "open dialog" in smplayer (and other qt5 apps) I needed to install libqt5libqgtk2. After that I removed the qt4 version mentioned above and reinstalled the qt5 version smplayer_16.6.0-1~trusty1_amd64.deb. I now have the expected "open dialog", that is, the same as under the qt4 version.

P.s. Master PDF Editor 3, which is also a qt5 app, now also has the expected "open dialog".

On Linux Mint 17.3 libqt5libqgtk2 isn't even in the repos and I get the GTK open dialog without it. It was only needed on Debian tracking testing. I'll be installing Linux Mint 18 over 17.3 once it goes final. I'll see what happens then, although I already have a good idea.

Installed Linux Mint 18 MATE Sunday. Installed Smplayer 16.7.0-1-xenial1. Without libqt5libqgtk2 I was getting the basic open dialog. After installing libqt5libqgtk2 I get the GTK open dialog. :D
