Greetings.

Here's what I experienced»

After I couldn't find the color on laptop I but could on laptop G,
I scrolled through the ffdshow settings one line at a time (again) on I & G.
I then noticed/remembered that the day before I had put mplayer.exe
in as an ffdshow exe exception on I. So I removed that & tried the colors again.

This time I could see the video THROUGH the Preferences & Color windows.
The color code was apparently the color code for 3D objects in my XP theme.
I don't think the exact/specific color code (75A4D2) will help anyone,
because the color code would be whatever the 3D objects XP theme color code was.

I then tried to put the Hue/Sat/Lum codes into SMP, but
SMP does not have Hue/Sat/Lum. SMP has Hue/Sat/Val.
I then put the R/G/B codes into SMP - which worked.
The Hue/Sat values in SMP changed to match the XP theme values.
The video re-appeared in SMP. I then shutdown & restarted SMP.

The problem was NOT solved. The SMP video was turquoise (instead of black ...).
I checked the SMP color code. Even though the code 75A4D2 was correct,
the H/S & R/G/B values were NOT. This time when I put in the R/G/B values,
SMP changed the H/S values to values different than in the XP theme.
I could not correct the problem with a color code anymore.

It then occurred to me that I had recently started using the AutoHotKey command
WinSet, TransColor, 75A4D2, ahk_class ShellTrayWnd
on both laptops I & G. This AHK command changes the color 75A4D2 in my taskbar to transparent.
I turned off Transparency in the TaskBar on I & returned the SMP color code to 020202.
SMP worked properly again.

I don't know why
1) TransColoring the TaskBar on I interferes with DirectX overlays
nor why
2) TransColoring the TaskBar on G does NOT interfere with DirectX overlays.

For now I just need to turn off the TaskBar TransColor (on I) before running overlays ...

Now I would like to know why
1) TransColoring the TaskBar on I interferes with DirectX overlays
nor why
2) TransColoring the TaskBar on G does NOT interfere with DirectX overlays.
3) The SMP R/G/B codes do generate Hue/Sat values like elsewhere in XP.

Any helpful replies/insights appreciated.
Thank you.
Regards,
AEN

Hmm seems we're not having the same problems then. That's good as I was just going to reinstall xp anyway.
I also use AutoHotkey but for sound controling not display purposes. Not an issue here(with ahk).

Maybe you could have autohotkey disable or if necessary kill itself when smplayer.exe, dxlist.exe etc. runs. It wouldn't require any user intervention if it would auto disable and enable the offending functions.
