SMPlayer has stopped working

I am using SMPlayer 0.6.9 r3447 and mplayer r30369.

I was using that version of mplayer because at the time it had direct3d support while the one shipping with SMPlayer did not.

I have been using SMPlayer fine since...I don't know...at least May?

Now everytime I try to play a video file, it is scanning the font cache and then not playing the movie. It either crashes or does nothing.

No new fonts have been added to my system, I can guarantee that. I have always had nofontconfig passed as an option to mplayer and it has always worked fine, but for some reason it is now ignored.

Passing -nofontconfig to mplayer on the commandline still works fine.

What could have changed to cause this behavior?

I had the same problem. I seem to have fixed it by directly opening the config file in the SMPlayer/mplayer/mplayer folder using Notepad, and adding the line
-nofontconfig=TRUE
It seems like the setting is not saved when you just change it in the Preferences dialog.
