Occasional new instance option?

Is there a way to open a new instance of smplayer sometimes? most of the times i'm perfectly happy with keeping just one instance, but every now and then it would be nice if i could have another window without changing the option.
is there maybe a command line option to force starting a new one?
if there is none, can i add it to the pile of wishes?
