Can't pause when buffer is not full

When i start videos from SMTube and there is not enough data in the buffer for playback the player automatic pauses and plays when more data have been downloaded.
During this pause/play/pause/play/pause/play i am unable to pause the video my self or at least it seems i can only pause sometimes so i have to time it correctly.
I can see the play/pause icon changing on its own.

Seems like i have to hit space bar at the moment the player is player.
If i hit space bar at the moment the player is paused automatically (because of lack of data) i cant pause the video.
