Could you sync your packages in testing with the current Git/SVN versions of MPlayer(-mt)?

The source tree is quite different in the new versions of mplayer-mt, so it would take me some time to adapt the debian files.

Anyway it seems there's another PPA with a recent version of mplayer-mt (for karmic):

How about making an additional mplayer-nogui (like the *buntu packages) so that mplayer comes without that ugly, function less GUI, that is the reason for SMPlayer, isn't it? Also mplayer-nogui has a few less dependencies.

When will you start supporting ubuntu lucid?

Dear rvm,

It would be really nice if you could create new mplayer-mt builds for lucid.
I couldn't install the one for karmic nor the one for debian because of dependency issues.
Hanbin's ppa is also dead.

Thank you very much!

Hmmm...the debian-multimedia version (is that what you mean by Debian?) is fairly easy to build into your own debs, in contrast to his mplayer builds, which has a very complicated rules file. I threw in the towel and just used an adapted RVM version of the rules file to build the May 31st version of the trunk mplayer for the Mepis community repo. What dependencies are giving you trouble with the Debian version?

Yes by debian I was indeed referring to debian-multimedia. Sorry for the poor wording.
It has a problem with libartsc0 in ubuntu lucid. It seems it's name was changed after intrepid. I am lazy so I just tried to install an existing deb and not to create one. I'm just an end user, my apologies.

Anyway, I found a deb file on launchpad from April, I think and it works. Still, it would be much easier to have smplayer, mplayer, mplayer-mt, mencoder, mencoder-mt in just one ppa.

Yeah...that's what we've ended up doing with the Mepis 8.5 community repo: http://main.mepis-deb.org/

It's easier to rebuild packages from debian-multimedia unstable (except for mplayer) and stick'em in our restricted repo. Just rebuilt ffmpeg and mplayer using today's sources and sent them up, since they now support vp8 encoding...though I have only tried ffmpeg successfully to encode to an mkv file with vp8 video and vorbis audio. I'm not really familiar with mencoder. I'm not sure, but I think it's necessary to build mplayer against the new libavcodec-dev packages from the ffmpeg build; at least that's what I did to get mplayer and smplayer working.

Hi,
could you modify you mplayer package so that it doen't install the mplayer-gui? Like the Debian package http://packages.debian.org/experimental/mplayer

The GUI is not longer developed and unmaintained, with many bugs, also the Debian devs don't advise to install the old mplayer-gui. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepor ... =579925#10
